Aristides Baltas (Emeritus Professor at Technical University of Athens, SYRIZA MP, and former Minister) will present the speaker and his work.

Since 2007, the Nicos Poulantzas Institute has established an Annual Lecture in memory of Nicos Poulantzas, where distinguished figures from different countries elaborate on various issues of their interest, linking theory to political practice, in the broad sense.

The French-Brazilian Marxist sociologist, philosopher and ecosocialist, Michael Löwy, will be the speaker of 2018 Annual Lecture. Löwy was born in 1938 in Sao Paulo. He studied Social Science in the University of Sao Paolo and obtained his PHD from the University of Sorbonne under Lucien Goldmann. He settled permanently in Paris at 1969. He worked with Nicos Poulantzas at the University of Paris VIII (Vincennes). Presently, he is Emeritus Research Director of Social Sciences at CNRS and he teaches at the EHESS in Paris. He is a founding member of the World Social Forum and the Ecosocialist International Network as well. He is also the co-author, with Joel Kovel, of the Ecosocialist Manifesto. Löwy is the author of numerous books.
