Athanasios Tsakris

Athanasios Tsakris is a Professor of Microbiology and the Director of the Microbiology Laboratory at the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He earned his PhD from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and is a member of the Royal College of Pathologists (UK). He has authored over 480 publications in international scientific journals and serves as a reviewer for research programs in the European Union and other international organizations.

He has been a member of the European Union’s Scientific Advisory Committee on Antimicrobial Resistance Research and Infection Control. With extensive experience in public health crisis management, his research focuses on, among other areas, promoting the One Health approach, which integrates human, animal, and ecosystem health.
