Pausanias Papageorgiou

Pausanias Papageorgiou is a legal scholar, researcher, and politician. He holds a degree in Law as well as a degree in Language, Literature, and Media Studies from the University of Hamburg. He also holds a Master’s degree from the Institute of Ancient Greek and Latin Philology.
His political positions are theoretically situated within contemporary European progressivism, and he engages regularly in public discourse on matters of international and domestic political relevance. In his capacity as Secretary General, he has frequently represented Greece at the Council of Ministers of the European Union, as well as in international organizations, forums, and think tanks.
In the course of his public service, he played a decisive role in the re-establishment of a national body responsible for youth policy and in the removal of numerous conditionalities, thereby enabling the release of European funds aimed at youth empowerment, skills development, and social inclusion.
In Greece, his political activity has been primarily associated with the progressive left and SYRIZA. He has served in the party’s Central Committee, Political Secretariat, and the Secretariat for International and European Affairs. He has also held the position of Party Spokesperson during the period in which SYRIZA was the main opposition party, and served as Director of the Nicos Poulantzas Institute, on whose Board of Directors he continues to serve as a member.
