National Gallery Auditorium \u2013 50 Vassileos Konstantinou Ave., Athens<\/strong><\/p>\nThe Nicos Poulantzas Institute is organising a tribute event in honour of Nicos Mouzelis on Monday, 18 May, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., at the Auditorium of the National Gallery in Athens.<\/p>\n
The event will open with introductory remarks by Antonis Liakos, Emeritus Professor of Modern History at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.<\/p>\n
The programme will feature contributions by distinguished academics and public intellectuals:<\/p>\n

- Lina Papadopoulou, Professor of Constitutional Law, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki<\/li>\n
- Efthymios Papataxiarchis, Emeritus Professor of Social Anthropology, University of the Aegean<\/li>\n
- Maria Repoussi, Historian, former Professor of History Education at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and Director of the Nicos Poulantzas Institute<\/li>\n
- Marilena Simiti, Professor of Political Sociology, University of Piraeus<\/li>\n
- Dimitris Sotiropoulos, Professor of Political Science at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and President of the Hellenic Political Science Association<\/li>\n
- Loukas Tsoukalis, Professor at Sciences Po Paris and Emeritus Professor at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens<\/li>\n
- Nikos Fotopoulos, Professor of Sociology at the University of the Peloponnese<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
The speakers will reflect on the multifaceted work of Nicos Mouzelis and his engagement with different currents of social and political thought. The discussion will highlight his contribution to sociological theory and the study of modernisation, as well as his interventions in debates on democracy and civil society.<\/p>\n
Particular emphasis will also be placed on his participation in collective initiatives and public interventions, including ELEMEP, Paremvasi<\/em>, the GSEE Labour Academy and Gefyra<\/em> \u2014 initiatives that demonstrate his active involvement in Greece\u2019s public and political life.<\/p>\n
The event will also feature the screening of a documentary video including excerpts from Mouzelis\u2019s work, archival material from interviews and public talks, and original testimonies. In the documentary, actor Marios Athanasiou reads passages from his books, while Fotini Tsalikoglou reflects on his final book, An Inner Journey with Obstacles<\/em>, a deeply personal and autobiographical account by the distinguished sociologist.<\/p>\n
The event pays tribute to one of Greece\u2019s most important sociologists with an international presence, whose scholarly work and public engagement left a lasting imprint on contemporary social and political thought.<\/p>\n
