26th Annual Conference on Alternative Economic Policy in Europe

08/09/2020 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Dear colleagues,

This year’s EuroMemo Group conference will take place under special circumstances due to Covid-19. Therefore, we have decided to split up the schedule to provide you with the opportunity to contribute in the plenaries and the workshops with more flexibility in an Online-Format and the first virtual conference.

Following up on the theme of last year’s conference on the need for a Green New Deal for Europe, this year’s conference will particularly address the need for a profound socio-ecological transformation of Europe, as perhaps the last chance for a progressive form of European integration. In response to the twin crises of climate change and the COVID-19 pandemic, the focus will be on discussing policy proposals on how we can establish a truly transformative agenda that deepens global cooperation on vital issues of humanity like climate change, public health and migration, while at the same time reinforcing local sustainable development in the EU.

The conference starts next week on Tuesday, 8 September 2020 with the Opening Plenary on the Political and Economic State of the European Union in the shadow of COVID-19: deep crisis, lack of solidarity, and the threat of further disintegration

Keynote I: Political State of the Union
Prof. Claude Serfati (Associate Researcher at the Institut de Recherche Économique et Sociale; Senior lecturer at the Université Versailles-Saint-Quentin)

Keynote II: The Economic State of the Union
Euclid Tsakalotos (Professor of Economics, University of Athens, and former Minister of Finance of Greece)

Keynote III: The economic and social consequences of the COVID-19 crisis: a feminist perspective
Maria Karamessini (Professor in Labour Economics and Economics of the Welfare State, Panteion University Athens)

Registration is required for participating at the online opening plenary. If you have not already registered, you can do that via E-mail (info@euromemo.eu) until the 7 September at 12:00 (noon). You will then receive an access code for the online plenary. Participation in each plenary or workshop requires an access code. In order to receive this, a conference registration is mandatory.

We are looking forward to interesting discussions and to welcoming you at the conference!

With kind regards,

The Steering Committee of the EuroMemo Group
